Free logo maker guides

A free logo maker lets you design and edit without paying. These guides show how to make the most of it and what to look for in the files before you download.

What "free" means in a free logo maker

"Free logo maker" covers several different deals. Some tools let you design for nothing and charge for the download. Others hand you a small file for free and charge for one big enough to print, keep the vector file back, or only allow personal use. None of that is wrong, but it's worth knowing which deal you're in before you put an hour into a design.

On DepthLogo the deal is simple: you pay when you download files, not before. Every template in our free logo maker can be browsed and edited without an account, and every account gets its first AI design free; you sign in with an email code or Google. Previews carry a watermark until you buy.

Use the free part to decide everything

The free stage is where the real decisions happen, so take your time with it. By the time you pay, the only question left should be which files you need. Before spending anything, you can settle:

  • the name, if you don't have one yet, with our AI name and slogan ideas;
  • the layout, by seeing your real name in template after template;
  • the fonts, colors and spacing, in the editor, with as many tries as you need;
  • whether the design holds up small and on a dark background, by zooming out and switching the background;
  • what your current logo gets wrong, by running it through our logo checker, which is free with no sign-up and no limit.

What you're paying for

When you buy, you pay once. There's no subscription, nothing renews, and every purchase includes a commercial license. What the payment gets you is what a preview can't: clean files without the watermark. That means transparent PNGs for the web, a vector that a printer can enlarge without blurring if you take the SVG, and, with a template logo, black and white versions as well. After that, editing a template or SVG logo and downloading it again costs nothing. The pricing page has the current prices.

We think a watermarked preview is the fairer kind of free, because you know exactly what you're paying for before you pay.

Our guide to making a logo for free has a full checklist for judging any free logo maker, and logo file formats explains each file and when you need it. The logo checker guides cover testing, and the logo maker guides cover editing.
